  • ¾ cup (170 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups (400 g) granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240 ml) buttermilk, room temperature

For the Frosting (Classic Buttercream):

  • 1 cup (227 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups (500 g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2-3 tbsp milk or heavy cream

Optional Toppings:

  • Fresh berries
  • Edible flowers
  • Sprinkles

Directions:

  1. Preheat & Prepare Pans:
    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter & Sugar:
    In a large bowl, use a mixer to beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes). This step adds air to the batter, ensuring a tender cake.
  4. Add Eggs & Vanilla:
    Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Combine Wet & Dry Ingredients:
    Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix gently until just combined—don’t overmix!
  6. Bake the Cakes:
